The tower of Dread

This week's (and last week's) Tabletop episode is a 2 parter! The game is a Role Playing Game called Dread that features an interesting gameplay mechanic. Joining Wil are Laura Bailey, Molly Lewis, and Ivan Van Norman. Can the players survive the scenario put before them? Watch the videos to find out! PART 1 PART 2. Keep reading for a bit more info.

Dread is a horror-based RPG that doesn't use dice as a way of determining outcomes. It uses a Jenga tower instead! Pull a piece successfully and you're allowed to complete your action. If the tower falls, (or you refuse to pull) you can probably guess that the outcome won't be good!

The creator, Epidiah Ravachol describes the game like this:

"Dread is a game of horror and hope. Those who play will participate in a mutual telling of an original macabre tale. The goal of Dread is to sustain the delicate atmosphere that invokes the hand quivering emotion that lends its name to the game. The thrill of a Dread game lies within the tension between desire and loss. You will take on the role of someone trapped in a story that is only as compelling as it is hostile—someone who will find themselves making decisions we hope never to face in real life".

I've never played or read too much into RPG games but I found myself totally engrossed in the videos. All the players seemed to get really get into their roles which made for a very enjoyable watching experience. The scenario/story was really captivating and the Jenga mechanic definitely added an extra edge of suspense! It certainly lived up to the creator's description of the game.

Anyone who enjoys RPG's and is looking for one with a really cool mechanic should definitely check this out.
