2014 Golden Geek Awards - winners revealed!

The winners of the 2014 Golden Geek Awards by BoardGameGeek.com have been announced.

With 20 games vying for the Board Game of the Year prize, only one could take the top honour.

The top 3 are:

Winner - Splendor

"Splendor is a game of chip-collecting and card development. Players are merchants of the Renaissance trying to buy gem mines, means of transportation, shops—all in order to acquire the most prestige points. If you're wealthy enough, you might even receive a visit from a noble at some point, which of course will further increase your prestige".

Runner upDead of Winter: A Crossroads Game

"Crossroads is a new series from Plaid Hat Games that tests a group of survivors' ability to work together and stay alive while facing crises and challenges from both outside and inside. Dead of Winter: A Crossroads Game, the first game in this series, puts 2-5 players in a small, weakened colony of survivors in a world where most of humanity is either dead or diseased, flesh-craving monsters. Each player leads a faction of survivors with dozens of different characters in the game".

Runner upFive Tribes

"Crossing into the Land of 1001 Nights, your caravan arrives at the fabled Sultanate of Naqala. The old sultan just died and control of Naqala is up for grabs! The oracles foretold of strangers who would maneuver the Five Tribes to gain influence over the legendary city-state. Will you fulfill the prophecy? Invoke the old Djinns and move the Tribes into position at the right time, and the Sultanate may become yours".

Looks like a good selection this year. I haven't played any of the games but I'm sure I will soon. Any recommendations are welcome!
